Review:
Sometimes we are
stuck between what we feel and what we should feel. We are human and it is
natural to feel about something in a certain way. What’s more important is that
we should think rationally about those feelings. Regretting You by
Colleen Hoover remarkably presents that rationality. The novel is about love,
affection, betrayal and deceit. It also celebrates the undying love and a
beautiful relation of mother and daughter duo. There are two central character
in the novel, Clara and Morgan Grant.
The novel opens
with Morgan finding out she is pregnant. She finds herself drawn towards her
sister’s boyfriend Jonah. As she is pregnant with her boyfriend’s child she
gives up her feeling she felt for Jonah and marries Chris, her boyfriend. She devote
herself and gives seventeen years of dedication to Chris and her daughter
Clara. An unfortunate accident causes Chris’s death. Morgan finds out that
Chris was with her sister Jenny when the accident happened, who also dies.
Situation becomes doubtful when Morgan discovers certain proofs about their
chances of having an affair. She feels betrayed by the two people she loved
most in the world. All the good memories are shattered with this betrayal.
Clara, on the
other hand thinks that her mother Morgan is having an affair with Jonah,
Jenny’s fiancé. However, Morgan is only trying to protect her from the truth
about his father. Clara is more close to her aunt Jenny than her mother Morgan.
When both the people she is close to are dead, the mother daughter duo cannot
keep up peacefully. Clara’s doubt and Morgan’s desperation to protect her
daughter creates misunderstanding between the two. They barely talk to each
other. How will things become clear when they avoid even a normal conversation?
The novel is a
wonderful read. The narration goes in sequence by Morgan and Clara. These
technique presents what is going on in their mind and a reason behind their certain
actions. It beautifully cherishes the mother-daughter relation and how they
overcome their differences. It also cherishes the kind of love that we all
deserve in a life.
