Review:
“Mistakes are
nothing to be ashamed of. Mistakes teach us to take responsibility. They teach
us what works and what doesn’t. We learn what we would do differently the next
time, how we will be different, better and wiser in the future. We are not just
walking mistakes, we are human.”
At first you
think you belong somewhere. That you are meant to be where you are. But when
the thing takes a U-turn, you realize it is not the place you were supposed to
be. During those hurdles, you get a perspective of how you were so indulged in the
one place that you couldn’t see the place you are meant to be. The connection
that you feel with those people, things or even places creates a sense of
contentment. Like you are fulfilled, complete in a way. Perfect by
Cecelia Ahern introduces the idea that home is not a place, rather it’s the
people who make you feel like home. Despite your flaws, weaknesses, mistakes,
they still accept you as you are and supports you throughout.
The novel is the
sequel of the book Flawed. In the first novel, the heroine,
Celestine North thought that she belongs in the perfect world she is living in.
She considered herself as the perfect girl who would never make a mistake. She
followed the rules and laws responsibly. But when she favors humanity over the
law, she was punished and branded as Flawed. The novel Perfect
traces the outcome of Celestine’s decision and how she finds the place she
actually feel as her home.
The novel starts
where Celestine is hiding after running away from her home. From the laws that
branded her as Flawed. She has the proof which would prove the Flawed system as
flawed. Bosco or Judge Crevan is after Celestine as she holds the proof which
would end the entire Flawed system and the Guild. Celestine wants to expose
Judge Crevan. The Guild’s dominance over Flawed people should be banned. The
inhuman treatment of the Flawed people must be abolished. Flawed people are also
humans and should be treated as such.
In the journey
to achieve justice, Celestine meets the people she feels as her own. Whenever
she is with them, she feels at home. They offer her their loyalty and helps her
bring the justice. It is Celestine versus the Guild. She is willing to expose
the injustice, but what if her one mistake would result into something which
will put her in even more danger. She has the proof but she doesn’t know who to
trust with that proof. She has been on run, she doesn’t want to hide anymore.
She decides to face them and prove her point. The forces she is fighting
against are stronger than she is. Her decision had caused her even more danger
than good. Not only she, but the people she loves are also in danger now. Any one
she trusts, betrays her for their own selfish purpose. Will she be able to
expose the evil? Or she will face the same tragedy as those before her who ever
tried to question the law.
The novel is a
simple read. The language is easy. It also provides an insight into the previous
events of the first novel.
