Review:
“Sometimes two
people have to fall apart to realize how much they need to fall back together.”
Point of Retreat by Colleen Hoover remarkably presents this idea.
The novel is a sequel of Slammed, it reflects the progress of
Layken and Will’s relationship. They’d successfully overcame the outer
obstacles they’d faced in the first novel. But they soon faces the obstacles from
within. Will’s past seem to endanger his present as well as upcoming future.
The novel Point
of Retreat opens with Will and Layken happily managing family situation
together. They are taking care of their brothers, Kel and Caulder. Every once
in a while Eddie and Gavin join them at dinner. Everything was going well until
Vaughan, Will’s ex-girlfriend enters again in his life. She wants Will back in
her life. Her return seem to question Will’s love for Layken. Vaughan tells
Will that he only loves Layken because she has similarity with his situations. He
only love her for the sake of helping her. It’s not true love. Does he really
loves Layken or is it just a sympathy love because he felt sorry for her?
It is necessary
to question your feelings when your whole life depend on it. It is important to
realize why you feel about something or someone in a certain way. Not only it
would make you clear about your feelings but it’ll make the relation transparent
also. Transparency is an important factor to trust someone. Layken just wants
that clearness and transparency from Will about his feelings for her. No doubt
she loves him but it is not about her feelings, it’s about Will’s feelings for
her.
The novel is an
excellent read. The language is simple. It’s written from the perspective of
Will this time. The character of Julia doesn’t appear but her presence is
described through the advices she had left for Will and Layken. The character
of Kiersten is my favorite from this novel. She is like mini version of Eddie.
They both lighten the serious situations with their sarcasm.
Recommendation:
- A must read
- Can add to TBR list
