Review:
There are stages
of Hating, Disappointment, Irritation, Despise, Hate and Ardent Hate. Hate
and Love are produced by almost the same amount of emotion. The Hating
Game by Sally Thorne is about Lucy and Joshua who couldn’t be more
compatible with each other. Both hate each other as much as there are stars in
the galaxy. What happens when one of them drop their weapon in this hating
game? Will the other one do the same or slay?
Lucy is a witty,
ambitious and social girl who is pursuing her dream job. She works in a
publishing house. The company forms a merger with another company and she came
in contact with Joshua Templeman. It was hate at first sight. Both indulge
themselves in childish games which Lucy refers to as the Hating game. Both are
co-CEOs of the company and the real game starts when the company announces
a recruitment for the CEO post. Lucy and Joshua are at the war for the post.
Both are desperate to be another one’s boss. Lucy is determined if Joshua come
to be her boss she will resign from the job. She can’t tolerate him to be her
boss.
Lucy and Joshua
plans a trip for the office employees as an effort to prove their contribution
in the company. During this trip, they find that the things aren’t at all what
they’d assumed about each other. Both can perfectly get along with each other
if they put their ego aside. However, none are ready to do this at first. But
when Lucy fell sick, Joshua takes care of her during the time. Lucy had seen a
different side of him during his recovery. She is confused as to which side of
him is true.
To repay the
help of Joshua during her illness, Lucy agrees to go with Joshua at his
brother’s wedding and pretend to be his girlfriend. As they pretend as a couple
they feel it to be true. Soon, they are reminded of their real game i.e. their
game for the post of a CEO. Will they accept each other as a boss-employ or the
lovers? It’s up to them after all.
The novel is
simple to read. It is narrated from the perspective of the central character
Lucy. The language is simple and clear.
